About

Patrick Yim’s latest album, Bamboo Grove, features compositions by Chen Yi and Zhou Long, whose compositional styles have been shaped by their experiences of bridging the Chinese and Western musical traditions. The two composers met as students in the Beijing Conservatory at the end of the Chinese Cultural Revolution in the 1970s, at a time when higher education had just reopened for the first time in ten years. They later moved to New York City for further studies, and went on to establish rich careers as composers and educators in the US.

Through his performance of these works, Yim demonstrates a multidimensional approach to the violin and viola that highlights the intersection of Chinese and Western styles in a collision of musical worlds.
